Major UK Companies

The main body of The Personnel Manager's Yearbook 2009/10, contains an alphabetical list of over 13,000 UK companies.

Companies within the directory all have their own HR department or an individual responsible for HR issues. We have also included the head offices of large holding companies where there may not be an HR contact. Subsidiary companies are listed under their own entry as far as possible except where their HR function is centralised by the parent company.

This section is of principal interest to:

• HR executives who wish to contact fellow HR professionals in other major UK companies
• Anyone looking to move within the industry or network with professionals in other companies
• Suppliers, job seekers or researchers wishing to identify particular HR staff
• Researchers looking at the breakdown of the HR function in the largest companies in the UK.

In addition to this alphabetical listing, these companies are listed in two key indexes, which can be found in the centre of the directory after the major companies entries. Here companies are listed by:

• Geographical Region - by county. This also indicates the number of companies in each region at the beginning of each category
• Business Activity - by industry. This also indicates the number of companies in each industry sector at the beginning of each category.

A Personnel Contacts index lists contact names by surname who have either director- or manager-level responsibility.

The second part of the book, contains over 4,500 listings of organisations providing services and products to the HR industry. A sample entry showing all the information included within these entries can be seen on the sample entries page. Companies are divided into 19 sections;

These sections are subdivided into different categories and companies are listed under the category that best highlights its main specialisation. Some companies have entries under more than one category.

In addition to a full alphabetical index, adviser companies are also listed by geographical region after the Adviser sections.
