![]() The Training Manager's YearbookIntroductionHelen Helmer , EditorWelcome to the tenth anniversary edition of The Training Manager’s Yearbook. It has been an exciting year for us here at AP as 2008 has seen the launch of a number of new products and services. In January we launched The People Bulletin – a fortnightly e-newsletter that mixes up-to-date news stories with entertaining and informative features on a wide range of training and HR issues. Beginning on page 692 you’ll find two examples of the type of features found in The People Bulletin. On page 692, veteran change agent and author Burce Nixon sets out an impassioned argument for sustainable business leadership in the face of the biggest crisis the world has ever faced – climate change. The extensive flooding seen in the UK this summer brought global warming to our doorstep and hinted at the enormity of the problem facing us. It also made it abundantly clear that we must act now. Organisations can lead the way by moving towards sustainability and training professionals in particular can do their bit by offering effective sustainable leadership. On a different tack, on page 696 Vanessa Cardew from you: unlimited explores what it is that makes employees tick and gives some useful tips on goal setting as she poses the question: can you train someone to be happy? 20,000 people from our HR and training database now enjoy this fortnightly dose of HR and training news and features – if you don’t currently receive The People Bulletin but would like to, go to www.findasupplier.info/training and enter your email address to sign up. At AP we strive to supply data in any form our clients require, which is why we have been hard at work developing the online version of the yearbook: www.trainingmanagersinfo.co.uk The Training Manager’s Yearbook Online offers greater searchability and increased usability, but the most significant benefit to users will be the increased accuracy an online resource affords. Whilst the print directory is as accurate as we can make it when it goes to press, the nature of print means that data does become out-dated. This data deprecation is no longer a problem as The Training Manager’s Yearbook Online is updated on a daily basis to reflect the work we do throughout the year in keping our database up-to-date. The Training Manager’s Yearbook Online is available to all current recipients of the directory. If you are a training professional who currently receives the print directory, you can use The Training Manager’s Yearbook Online to network with colleagues in the training industry by searching for an individual or a specific company. Don’t forget, if you need to source a training supplier, www.findasupplier.info is the largest directory of UK suppliers of training products and services, with companies searchable by name, specific training speciality and geographical location. If you are a purchaser of the print directory, The Training Manager’s Yearbook Online also allows you to select companies by location, industry sector and employee figure. Go to www.trainingmanagersinfo.co.uk to find out more. Whilst developing these exciting new products we haven’t ignored what makes The Training Manager’s Yearbook such a valuable resource – namely the data it contains. We have striven to improve accuracy and increase the depth of information each entry contains – this year, for instance, you’ll find more individual email addresses than ever before. We hope you will continue to find The Training Manager’s Yearbook and The Training Manager’s Yearbook Online useful tools for your business. As always we welcome your feedback, so if you have anything to say regarding any of our products and services, please get in touch by emailing tmy@apinfo.co.uk
